IAF Strikes 60 Targets in Gaza; Death Toll Reaches 763

08/01/2009 Israeli occupation army resumed its aggression on Thursday against the Gaza Strip and it said that it attacked at least 60 targets across the coastal territory.
On the 13th day of the aggression, Israeli Air Force war planes, in coordination with the Shin Bet, attacked more targets and homes in the Strip to make the Palestinian death toll reaches over 763 martyrs and more than 3100 wounded.
About 20 people, among them many women and children, were martyred in new raids by the Israeli military on Thursday, said Mouawiya Hassanein, head of Gaza’s emergency services. Rescuers also found many bodies in debris while searching during a three hour suspension in hostilities across Gaza between 1100 GMT and 1400 GMT, he said.
The death toll passed 700 on Wednesday night, but Hassanein noted that “the toll has gone up to 763 after the discovery of many bodies in zones that we could not get to before,” especially around Jabaliya and Atatra in the north and Zeitoun in Gaza City.
The Israeli Air Force late Wednesday attacked towns in the southern Gaza Strip. At least 24 Palestinians were killed there. Four died of injuries sustained at the bombing of the school in the Jabalya refugee camp Tuesday, bringing the total casualties in that attack to 46. A family of four was killed in a separate attack on their car in Beit Lahia.
Eight different human rights organizations filed an urgent petition with the High Court of Justice Wednesday, demanding that the Israeli occupation army be prevented from attacking medical teams and ambulances operating in Gaza.
The petitioners are demanding that the occupation army allow emergency medical teams to assist the injured and facilitate their evacuation to the hospital.
The petition says that since the Israeli military offensive in Gaza was launched, many cases have been recorded where the army fired medical staff assisting Palestinians wounded in the aggression.
The petitioners say that the numerous cases reported indicate that attacks on medical teams are not accidental. In addition, they are saying that Israeli army procedure for approving the ambulances’ movement is inefficient, time-consuming, and usually results in failure to get through to casualties.
On Tuesday, 53 people were killed in two strikes on targets in Gaza. Palestinian sources reported that at least 40 were killed in a strike on a UN school in Jabaliya.
